Welcome to the Art of the Dancing Brush
of Nora Sanders
The Art of the Dancing Brush dates back 5,000 years when the Chinese invented this magnificent instrument, which when dipped in ink would create myriad moods in both calligraphy and paintings. Unlike western brushes these brushes hold a considerable amount of liquid and are extremely versatile and expressive in the variety of strokes they produce. The Chinese were the first Impressionists. To the Ancients Fine Art was something beautiful expressing the ‘moment’ and the artist’s impression of what he saw in his mind’s eye.
Strict adherence to reality was not as important as composition and space. The balance of the yin and yang, positive and negative space was of utmost importance. The brush would literally dance over the surface drawing thick or thin lines, showing shadows and depth, distance or closeness with a rhythmical movement of the arm. The whole body and one’s inner soul was involved in the process.
As the global village is shrinking in size and cultural cross-pollination on the increase, Nora Sanders has brought her Dancing Brushes from China to the American South West. The High Desert, the Mesas, the Bosque, the rock formations and mountains of the region lend themselves admirably to the Dancing Brush. Please enjoy traveling through my website. Most of the paintings are for sale.
